FIHOCA

Arknow is a tool developed by Fihoca to structure websites, and to automate the process of adding to and maintaining their content.

Arknow automates the conversion of documents to web pages (HTML format) and their publication on the net.

Application


		The program is installed locally in each user's computer.
		It can operate in a single-user or multi-user environment.
		In a multi-user environment, it allows a work group to be established on a local network.

		It allows documents to be saved on a corporate disk unit.

Work environment


		Graphic interface, which clearly shows the status of the various documents and the actions which can be taken.

		Integration with Microsoft Word versions 97, 2000 and XP. Arknow adds a button bar to Microsoft Word to enable verification of documents, definition of new features, links, etc.

		Integration in the XML file editor determined by the user.

		Help and learning tools integrated in the application. Direct access to on-line support: FAQs and consultations.

Contents

Tree structuring of website content.

Arknow integrates into the content structure:


		Word documents
		Files: HTML pages, dynamic web pages, office computing documents, images, Flash animations, videos, etc.
		Links to website, Internet, Intranet or Extranet addresses. They can also generate an e-mail message to a preset address.
		Documents in XML format: the XSL of conversion to HTML and, if desired, the validation DTD can be defined.

Simultaneous access control of different users to a document.

Metadata


		The documents are classified by concepts and values (metadata).

		Metadata is freely defined by the user determining: compulsory fulfilment by the authors of the document or not, single or multiple values, predefined or free values, etc.

User profiles


		Based on the user profiles, rules of action are established regarding activities.

		The same user may have various profiles.

Document conversion


		Arknow automatically generates different HTML format pages following criteria pre-established by the user.

		All website indexes are generated, establishing the links for browsing in the content tree.

		The result can be checked and browsed without the need to post the generated pages on any server.

		An Adobe PDF format file can be generated for Word documents (Adobe Acrobat Writer is not supplied with Arknow).

		Document conversion can be carried out one-by-one or massively.

Links

From Word documents, Arknow allows you to define links:


		To another point of the same document
		To another Word document or specific section of the document.
		To a web file or address defined in the content structure.

The link destination can be on the same website or on any other.

It allows presentation of the link destination to be selected: the same browser window as the origin, or other.

It has specific functions for links to images and to Flash animations.

The user has a link map for each document.

If the destination document changes, the links are updated.

Arknow alerts the user of the links which will be lost if a document is deleted.

Publication of documents


		Clearly to the user, Arknow offers the option of publishing on the specified server all the files generated by FTP.

		In the documents coming form Word, versions in Adobe PDF and/or Word can also be published.

		When publishing, a page of changes with regard to the last publication is automatically generated.

		Arknow allows you to export the websites generated.

Standards


		Microsoft Word is used as text editor.

		XML format is used for the treatment of contents.

		Conversion is based on XSL,.

		Generated HTML pages and the style sheets used (CSS) follow W3C specifications.
